Burn Babylon Burn

With Burn Babylon Burn, Alexis Bacci delivers a vision of the end of the world as explosive as it is exhilarating: a panoramic image in which the modern city gives way under the onslaught of demonic forces.

Two horned giantesses with blood-red skin lay waste to the city. Flaming manes, predatory grins, they crush buildings like toys and breathe out gusts of fire. Around them, skyscrapers collapse into a yellow, orange and vermilion blaze; columns of black smoke rise towards an incandescent sky, and the tower windows glow like embers.

The title echoes the biblical Babylon, symbol of the decadent city doomed to destruction. Alexis Bacci turns it into an image both ironic and powerful, in the tradition of Japanese giant monster films. It will speak to fans of kaiju, disaster films, punk art and underground comics, and its panoramic format will make it the centrepiece of a living room or study, for those who like to watch the world burn, at least on their walls.

Between 1970s manga, Italian-style horror and esotericism, Alexis Bacci draws dark, spellbinding worlds unlike any other.
