The work

This original watercolour by Alexis Bacci, dated 2025, was created for Possessions, his graphic, esoteric crime story published by Glénat. It depicts an enigmatic duo beneath a threatening sky: a portrait with the feel of a genre film, where mystery lurks in every corner.

In the foreground, a bearded man in orange-tinted glasses, collar turned up and wearing a black coat, stares gravely at the viewer. Beside him, a young woman with lilac hair and wide eyes seems to be holding her breath. Behind them, a cemetery and its cross emerge from the gloom; above, a winged creature with red eyes hovers, like a fallen angel come to claim its due.

The sky blazes with red, orange and grey, painted in loose, vibrant washes, and the cool tones of the figures contrast with this incandescent horizon, heightening the tension of the scene. The image will appeal to lovers of the fantastic, occult investigations, giallo and expressive watercolour, and will bring an intriguing atmosphere to a living room, library or study.

Of Franco-Italian origin, Alexis Bacci is also involved in the Petit Bonhomme project, published by Morgen.

This art print is produced by the Kyodai Print workshop on 210 gsm Fine Art paper. It is available in 30 × 40 cm, 50 × 70 cm and 70 × 100 cm.

The artist

Between 1970s manga, Italian-style horror and esotericism, Alexis Bacci draws dark, spellbinding worlds unlike any other.

Alexis Bacci is an author of French-Italian descent who graduated from Gobelins in 2001. He created Soir de match, a spin-off of the Lastman series, for which he received the Daruma award for best international manga at Japan Expo 2019. The same year saw the release of Captain Death, a metaphysical slasher noted for its references to 1970s sci-fi manga. In 2022 he published Dérives with Glénat, a dark tale in the vein of Italian horror cinema, recounting the underwater odysseys of elderly Japanese pearl divers. Then, in 2025, came Possessions, an esoteric and autobiographical thriller, with Glénat.
