The work

With this illustration, Alexis Bacci pays tribute to the heroic fantasy of the 1970s and 80s, somewhere between metal album sleeves and pulp covers: a dark adventure scene bathed in electric light.

Two warriors wade forward, thigh-deep in a murky swamp. On the left, a blonde fighter brandishes a short sword, her gaze fixed; on the right, a shaven-headed giant draped in a cloak grips his weapon impassively. Behind them looms an immense spectral creature, a long black silhouette with outsized arms, clawed fingers and serpentine hair, whose red eyes and predatory grin herald an imminent clash.

All around, ancient ruins stand out against a sky streaked with lightning, and a heap of skulls is piled on the shore. The pink, magenta and violet palette, worked with grainy textures, gives the image a neon atmosphere. It will appeal to lovers of sword and sorcery, role-playing games, retro horror and synthwave aesthetics, and will find its place in a living room, games room or study.

This art print is produced by the Kyodai Print workshop on 210 gsm Fine Art paper. It is available in 30 × 40 cm, 50 × 70 cm and 70 × 100 cm.

The artist

Between 1970s manga, Italian-style horror and esotericism, Alexis Bacci draws dark, spellbinding worlds unlike any other.

Alexis Bacci is an author of French-Italian descent who graduated from Gobelins in 2001. He created Soir de match, a spin-off of the Lastman series, for which he received the Daruma award for best international manga at Japan Expo 2019. The same year saw the release of Captain Death, a metaphysical slasher noted for its references to 1970s sci-fi manga. In 2022 he published Dérives with Glénat, a dark tale in the vein of Italian horror cinema, recounting the underwater odysseys of elderly Japanese pearl divers. Then, in 2025, came Possessions, an esoteric and autobiographical thriller, with Glénat.
